Art Deco Interior Design

Art Deco interior design was popular from around 1925 until before 1940. It was a design that incorporated styles and influences from a variety of various sources. Some of those sources include African, Egyptian and Aztec as well. The style was thought to be elegant and very functional. All homes and office buildings are built with some design principle or function in mind. 

Designers and homeowners looking for ways to re-design their living or work spaces are turning to Art Deco interior design. Some of the materials used in this style include aluminum, inlaid wood and stainless steel. The practicality of these materials led to the popularity of this design style during the Depression era of the 1920's.

Art Deco interior design uses many angles in its designs. A building designed in this style could have a pyramidal feeling to it due to the influences of Egyptian and Aztec designs. This style gives a building a look of endurance and strength. When this design style was just reaching its heights, the United States was increasing its industrial strength as a nation. Thus, this design style is a celebration of this strength.

Other materials that are popular in Art Deco interior design are glass, ebony and marble. You will notice that many of the materials in this design style give off a good shine. Shortly after the Great Depression, this style lost much of its popularity. However, in recent years it has enjoyed a comeback in popularity. Many designers choose it when they want to implement a retro style in their design plans.

An example of a building that used Art Deco interior design is the Empire State Building. The design uses clean lines and geometric shapes. If you are looking for something different and strong then this is a style that you should consider for your next retro design plan.
