Interior Design Education
With a number of people opting for creative professions today, drawings, designing and crafts have become the most sought after
educational fields. People seem to believe that with a lot of interest, one can cultivate creativity necessary for these professions. In
other words, creativity need not be born but made. In this scenario, Interior Design Education has become one of the most
popular fields of study in today’s world what with more people looking out for professionals to design their homes. It is therefore

As a result of the high demand there have been separate bodies formed for promoting Interior Design Education. One of the famous
among these is the Interior Design Educators’ Council (IDEC) formed as early as 1963 with the objective of enhancing
education and research in Interior design field. The council facilitates exchange of
information, improvement in educational standards and on the whole developing a wide body of knowledge required for the field. The members
are educators, businessmen, research scholars and others interested in Interior Design Education.

Today a number of options are available in the education of Interior design. Answers are galore for various problems such as
unaffordability for a degree education, inability to spend long hours in classroom etc. inspite of high interest to learn the profession
and be updated on the new developments.
For those who cannot afford spending money on the degree programs, there are a number of community colleges and technology schools
that offer courses of 1 or 2 years duration in Interior decoration. These are certificate programs that give adequate insight into the art
of Interior designing. Career counselors, available in adequate numbers also offer help in locating such schools.
To solve the problem of long classroom hours, a number of distance education and online courses are provided by many universities
and technical schools.
In the United States, for eg.,many universities and colleges offer four year bachelor’s program in Interior design. Subsequently,
Masters Programs are also offered but are not so common. For this reason, many students prefer doing advanced programs in related fields
such as industrial design or industrial art. A course accredited by Council for Interior Design Accreditation is highly beneficial than one
with no recognition.
Thus the Interior Design Education provides myriad answers and choices for any person genuinely interested in making a mark in the
field.
